Artemisia vulgaris L.

Varia è innanzitutto la natura nel procreare gli alberi.
Infatti alcuni crescono spontaneamente
senza nessun intervento degli uomini
e invadono i campi e i fiumi dalle ampie curve,
come la molle vetrice o la flessibile ginestra,
il pioppo e i biancheggianti salici dalla foglia glauca.
In parte nascono da seme, come gli alti castagni,
l'ippocastano dei boschi che massimo frondeggia a Giove,
e le querce considerate oracoli dai greci.
Ad altri dalla radice pullula una selva densissima,
come ai ciliegi e agli olmi;
anche il piccolo alloro del Parnaso
si pone sotto la grande ombra della madre.
La natura da principio diede questi modi:
con questi verdeggia ogni genere
di frutici delle selve e dei sacri boschi.
